"What Became of the Nightingale?"

May 18 - June 10, 2006

Danish artists have a long tradition for the gaining of inspiration from the Arabic world.
The two Danish poster-artists Claus Rohland and Jan Egesborg wished to pursue and carry on this tradition.

At Galerie Asbæk they show 15 new one-off posters with texts in Arabic. Later on the posters will be shown in Damascus, Syria and from there on continue to other Arabic countries.

The starting point for the artists was a wish to return to the Arabic world in order to work there and continue the common inspiration and dialogue which unfortunately abruptly has come to a halt because of the crisis caused by the drawings of Muhammed in the Danish paper Jyllands-Posten.

Claus Rohland and Jan Egesborg are internationally recognized poster artists whose latest exhibition was in the fall 2005 at the Danish Museum of Arts and Crafts. Previously they have put up posters in Baghdad - a story covered by Al-Jazeera, Reuters, BBC and CNN. They have shown the poster series "Keep Life Complicated" in Copenhagen, Malmö, London, Berlin, New York and Brussels.
