Dennis Oppenheim's conceptual art is characterized by an informal yet challenging attitude towards art and the institutions. Earlier on, this was reflected in projects in e.g. Land- and Body Art, and later in humourous sculptures and constructions, which broke with the expected by juxtaposing elements that normally do not belong together. The works are often figurative, concrete reworkings of his thought processes and his ideas, commenting by means of black humour and a dash of seriousness.
